This Mercury vehicle is not actually designed for Mercury, it was made for Mars but if you can get to Mars, you can get to Mercury. The heat shield is for Mars, ignore it, it uses the skycrane that powers the vehicle and slows it down. Detach the capsule and skycrane, then you will have got your lander on Mercury. Enjoy, BP editing included.
